2014-2015 Annual Report

The Western Pennsylvania Law Library Association (WPLLA) Executive Board members during 2014 – 2015 were: Cynthia Cicco, President; Ann Unger, Vice President; Sallie Smith (Secretary); Amy Gillin (Treasurer); Sue Megarry and Donna Kielar (Members-at-large); and Stosh Jonjak (Past President).

WPLLA continued to offer a broad range of educational programs during the past year. Members were able to attend these programs either in person or remotely via webex. These programs included: “So You Want to Manage a Law Library? Advice from Rookie and Veteran Managers Alike,” “Allegheny County Law Library Services to Members and the Public,” “PacerPro,” and “Local Business Research, Past, Present and Future.” The June program, “Annual Technology Roundup” was offered solely as a WebEx presentation. We hosted AALL Executive Board member Amy Eaton at our annual banquet. She spoke to us on the board’s work and the future of law libraries.

Two new initiatives were begun during the past year. A mentoring program was created to welcome new members into the Association. Emails were sent to new members welcoming them and each was offered a mentor for their first year in the Association.

An Ad Hoc Committee on Website revision to redesign the Chapter’s website. The Executive Board decided to use WordPress for the redesign. This project will continue to next year.

Susan Megarry lead an initiative for a letter writing campaign to 3 publishers to ask them to reconsider their decision to stop publication of indexes and other finding aids in their publications.

The Executive Board discussed the need to revise the annual scholarship/grant and the possibility of creating one or more Chapter awards. Our annual legal research program was not held in order that we re-examine the future need and format of these sessions. These projects will carry over to next year.

The Executive Board members for 2015 – 2016 are: Ann Unger, President; Pat Roncevich, Vice President; Sallie Smith, Secretary; Liz Whittington, Treasurer; Donna Kielar and Sarah Steers, Members-at-Large; and Cynthia Cicco, Past President.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as President of WPLLA and I look forward to our chapter’s future success.

Respectfully submitted,

Cynthia A. Cicco, WPLLA President 2014 – 2015
